Starting with a subtractive process in Rhino, I removed extruded shapes from a rectangular prism with the intention of creating an airy and continuous outpost building. Centralized by the blue cylinder, balconies allow for outlooks onto the surrounding land, while space in between provides for shelter and a place to sit. The ladder is carved into the outpost, not interfering with its repetitive geometry.

This exercise tasked us to draw a series of organic and geometric shapes and then select 20 that had largely varying composition. Then these shapes were extruded and arranged in a grid, where I focused on creating balance. Finally, I scaled up and down some of the shapes and rearranged them in a free-flowing cluster, aiming to offset each piece so they could loosely fit in together.

Tasked with creating a garden space using forms from the prior assignment, I strove to balance the organic and geometric shapes. The planters and posts that held life and light suited the organic forms, while the more structural backdrop and bench aligned with the geometric forms. I also tried to increase the height of the forms as you continue through the space to make the bench feel more enclosed while the planters are imagined in a more airy garden.
